He bought her to be his weapon. She's planning to be his downfall.
In a world choked by eternal night, Bellera's golden blood is a death sentence. She is a Sun-blood, a "heretic" whose touch can heal or incinerate. When her own father sells her to the Shadow King to settle a debt, Bellera is dragged to the Citadel — a fortress of ice and violet shadows.
Malakor is everything the stories warned her about: cold, ruthless, and terrifyingly powerful. He doesn't want her heart; he wants her light to feed his failing wards. He views her as a tool — a battery to be used until she burns out. Bellera views him as a monster to be survived.
But trapped in a Blood Pact that forces them to feel each other's every heartbeat and dark desire, the line between hatred and obsession begins to blur. As the High Inquisition closes in to "cleanse" them both, Bellera realizes that the only thing more dangerous than the King's shadows is the heat she feels when he's near.
The Tithe has been paid. The hunt has begun. And in the dark, even enemies can't help but crave the spark.
